Practice Concentration and Experience:
Christin Thompson focuses on healthcare compliance and reimbursement issues. Christin represents clients nationwide. She has experience in assessing client records for documentation compliance in private payor and CMS audit preparation as well as identifying and improving documentation deficiencies. Prior to joining Liles Parker, Ms. Thompson worked in multiple capacities as a medical coder and is certified in inpatient, outpatient, and risk adjustment coding. Her experience as a coder brings a unique depth of understanding of documentation and coding requirements for hospital-based inpatient services, ambulatory surgery center procedures, outpatient specialty clinics, ancillary services, as well as home health and hospice providers through use of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS medical code sets. She is also a Certified Medical Compliance Officer and assists providers in implementing and updating policies and compliance programs, addressing fraud and abuse allegations, and resolving reimbursement issues.
She has worked closely with a variety of providers and entities including home health and hospice agencies, primary and urgent care, pain management, behavioral health, physical therapy, and complementary and holistic medicine. Ms. Thompson has assisted providers undergoing audits by CMS program integrity contractors, including, but not limited to, Unified Program Integrity Contractor (UPIC), Supplemental Medical Review Contractor (SMRC), Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC), Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) Targeted Probe and Educate (TPE), Comprehensive Error Rate Testing (CERT), to minimize alleged overpayments. She focuses on reducing unfavorable determinations at the earliest appeal level possible. Christin has successfully represented providers in Administrative Law Judge hearings, reversing or reducing unfavorable determinations by lower-level Medicare contractors. She has also worked closely with organizations and individuals to reduce or eliminate suspension, exclusion, or debarment periods associated with Medicare, Medicaid, and the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program.
In addition to Medicare audits and disciplinary actions, Ms. Thompson assists providers with Medicaid, OIG, and major commercial payor audits and SIU investigations, including prepayment review, post-payment overpayments, and fraud allegations. Christin has successfully supported providers in conducting proactive self-audits and submitting voluntary refunds to address identified compliance concerns.
